Dr. Edgar Payán leads CMN Hospital’s Advanced Cancer Treatment program, an inpatient approach focused on coordinated therapies, ongoing medical evaluation, individualized treatment planning, and comprehensive inpatient support throughout care. Treatments are selected and adjusted throughout the program based on each patient’s diagnosis, condition, pathology, imaging, and response during treatment.
Dendritic cells are known as the “messenger cells” of the immune system because they help identify abnormal cells and activate T-cells and other immune responses within the body.
Research involving dendritic cells and cancer immunology was advanced through the work of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Ralph Steinman, who discovered dendritic cells and their important role in immune system activation while working at Rockefeller University in 1973.
In Dr. Payán’s inpatient program, dendritic cell therapy involves preparation, incubation, and activation of autologous dendritic cells using the patient’s own cells during treatment sessions.
Bone marrow plays an important role in immune system function and cellular regeneration within the body.
In Dr. Payán’s inpatient program, autologous bone marrow stem cell therapy involves obtaining bone marrow aspirate under sedation within the operating room environment.
Dendritic cell therapy and autologous bone marrow–derived stem cell therapy may be integrated alongside IV nutrient therapy, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI), Major Autohemotherapy (MAH) ozone therapy, and additional supportive therapies selected based on the patient’s condition and treatment plan.

A 28-day inpatient program can feel overwhelming at first, especially for patients traveling far from home.
Patients stay within CMN Hospital’s dedicated inpatient wing in private suites designed for comfort, privacy, and recovery throughout treatment. Each suite includes a private restroom, television, Wi-Fi access, daily housekeeping, and space for rest between therapies. Meals are prepared daily and provided within the inpatient program.
Patients remain at CMN Hospital throughout treatment while receiving coordinated therapies, inpatient support, monitoring, and ongoing medical care within a comprehensive hospital environment located only minutes from Yuma, Arizona.
Patients remain at CMN Hospital throughout their treatment, allowing them to become familiar with the physicians, nurses, therapists, and medical staff involved in their care. Many patients describe the hospital environment as calm, organized, attentive, and reassuring during what is often a physically and emotionally demanding time. Treatments are coordinated throughout the day within the privacy of the patient suites while also allowing time for rest, quiet walks, meals, and personal time during their stay. The structure of the inpatient program also helps lessen some of the day-to-day burden many patients have carried for quite a while before arriving.
The Patient Handbook was created to help patients better understand the therapies, supportive treatments, and inpatient experience at CMN Hospital in a clear and organized format during their stay The handbook includes educational information related to treatment approaches, supportive therapies, daily inpatient routines, and commonly discussed topics patients often wish to better understand throughout treatment.
Research in psycho-oncology and integrative medicine continues to recognize the connection between emotional wellness, stress, mindset, spiritual well-being, and overall quality of life during cancer treatment. Faith, Hope & Joy is a 30-day educational and reflective wellness guide provided to women during treatment. Each day is designed to help patients better understand the relationship between the mind, body, and spirit while exploring how stress, fear, thought patterns, emotional wellness, faith, gratitude, and personal reflection may influence the overall healing experience. Topics throughout the guide include journaling prompts, scripture reflections, mindfulness exercises, breathing exercises, emotional wellness topics, healing through music, self-compassion, gratitude activities, meditation, joyful eating, art therapy, and guided reflection exercises designed to support emotional and spiritual well-being during treatment.
