CMN Hospital’s 28-Day Advanced Cancer Treatment Program

A More Comprehensive Approach to Care

Many patients who come to CMN Hospital are facing difficult decisions after complex cancer diagnoses or prior treatment experiences. Some arrive physically exhausted, emotionally overwhelmed, or tired of trying to coordinate every aspect of care on their own. Others are searching for a more comprehensive physician-directed approach where care can be individualized and closely monitored within one hospital setting.

CMN Hospital’s 28-day inpatient Advanced Cancer Treatment Program was developed by Edgar Payán, MD, General Hospital Director of CMN Hospital. Established in 1987, CMN Hospital is a licensed full-service hospital located in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, near the U.S. border, where patients from around the world come for physician-directed inpatient care.

Advanced Inpatient Cancer Treatment

Dr. Edgar Payán leads CMN Hospital’s Advanced Cancer Treatment program, a physician-directed inpatient approach focused on supporting the body’s immune response through carefully coordinated therapies, ongoing medical evaluation, and individualized patient care. Treatments are selected and adjusted throughout the program based on each patient’s diagnosis, condition, and response during care.

Dendritic Cell Therapy

Dendritic cell therapy at CMN Hospital is provided exclusively within Dr. Edgar Payán’s 28-day inpatient cancer treatment program. Unlike simplified self-administered approaches sometimes referred to as “vaccines,” the therapy is performed as a coordinated inpatient treatment process involving multiple treatment sessions, ongoing medical monitoring, and daily physician oversight throughout the patient’s stay.

As part of the process, the patient’s own blood is used for preparation of autologous immune-related cells during treatment sessions throughout the program. Low-dose Filgrastim, a leukocyte growth factor belonging to the colony-stimulating factor class, is used during the preparation process to support immune-related cell stimulation and mobilization.

Because the therapy utilizes the patient’s own immune-related cells, no donor cells are used. Dendritic cells are often referred to as “messenger” cells of the immune system because they help recognize and present tumor-related markers to other immune-related cells as part of the body’s immune response.

Autologous Bone Marrow Stem Cell Therapy

Autologous bone marrow–derived stem cell therapy is performed as a separate procedure within CMN Hospital’s physician-supervised inpatient cancer treatment program. The procedure involves obtaining bone marrow aspirate in an operating room under sedation and medical supervision.

Unlike a routine peripheral blood draw, bone marrow aspiration allows access to bone marrow–derived stem cells, Natural Killer (NK) cells, and additional immune-related cellular components found within the bone marrow environment itself.

Because the stem cells originate from the patient’s own body, no donor cells are used. The bone marrow–derived cells are prepared and incubated prior to reinfusion as part of the individualized treatment process during the patient’s inpatient stay.

How These Therapies Work Together

Within CMN Hospital’s inpatient treatment program, dendritic cell therapy and autologous bone marrow–derived stem cell therapy are coordinated as complementary therapies designed to support the body’s immune response during treatment.

Dendritic cells are often referred to as the “messenger” cells of the immune system because they help recognize and present tumor-related markers to other immune-related cells. Bone marrow–derived cells contain stem cells, Natural Killer (NK) cells, and additional immune-related cellular components associated with immune system activity, cellular communication, and supportive immune response during treatment.

By integrating these therapies together within the inpatient treatment program, Dr. Edgar Payán is able to monitor patient response closely while coordinating individualized therapies and supportive care throughout each patient’s treatment process.

Advanced Supportive Therapies

Intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy is used within CMN Hospital’s physician-directed inpatient program to deliver vitamins, minerals, and additional supportive nutrients directly into the bloodstream under medical supervision.

Additional supportive therapies used within CMN Hospital’s inpatient treatment program may include Intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI), Major Autohemotherapy (MAH) ozone therapy, and additional physician-directed supportive treatments selected based on the patient’s condition and overall treatment plan.

These therapies are coordinated alongside dendritic cell therapy, autologous bone marrow–derived stem cell therapy, and additional inpatient treatments as part of Dr. Edgar Payán’s individualized physician-supervised program. Therapies are adjusted throughout care based on the patient’s response, diagnosis, pathology, imaging, and ongoing medical evaluation during treatment.

While we believe it is beneficial for patients to focus primarily on rest and healing during treatment, we also understand that stepping away from work, family, and personal responsibilities for a 28-day inpatient program may not always feel realistic. Many patients remain connected to part-time remote work, communication with family and friends, and important personal responsibilities during their stay whenever they feel well enough to do so.

Because treatments are coordinated throughout the day within the inpatient program, patients often have time during the evenings to rest privately in their suite, stay connected online, or communicate with loved ones in a comfortable and supportive setting.

Supportive Environment

CMN Hospital also provides patients with access to a recreation and art center within the hospital, offering opportunities for relaxation and personal reflection during treatment.

When medically appropriate and coordinated around treatment schedules, patients may also participate in scheduled local outings coordinated through your medical team during your stay.

Personalized Patient Experience

Throughout the program, Dr. Edgar Payán and CMN Hospital’s multidisciplinary medical team provide ongoing inpatient monitoring, coordinated treatment, and supportive care designed to help patients feel comfortable, cared for, and medically supported throughout their stay.

Patient Handbook and Cancer Coaching

Patient Handbook

The Cancer Treatment Handbook provides detailed scientific information about the cancer treatments patients receive at CMN Hospital, helping them gain a deeper understanding of their care. It empowers patients to feel informed and confident throughout their treatment. Designed to offer clarity and reassurance, it supports you at every step of the way, allowing you to make decisions with peace of mind and a sense of control over your healing process.

Faith, Hope & Joy Activity Guide

Faith, Hope & Joy is a reflective activity guide provided to women during CMN Hospital’s inpatient treatment program. The guide includes journaling prompts, scripture reflections, mindfulness exercises, gratitude activities, art therapy, emotional wellness topics, and guided self-reflection designed to support patients throughout treatment.

Topics within the guide include self-compassion, anxiety management, faith, meditation, healing through music, stress management, mindfulness, emotional healing, joyful eating, and daily reflection exercises. Many women find comfort in having a private space to process emotions, strengthen spiritual well-being, and remain connected to hope during challenging moments.

The guide is designed to encourage reflection, emotional resilience, and personal encouragement while supporting the connection between the mind, body, and spirit throughout the inpatient experience.
